I just love a minimalist shot, but what is a minimalist shot you might ask? For me this means having the subject isolated and surrounded by negative space.
Sometimes you find yourself up above the mist and fog, and in the morning light that can be amazing!
The iconic and slowly crumbling old pier at Brighton makes for a wonderful minimalist subject.
Pre-dawn to me has some of the best conditions and light on a good day. Here I was in Paignton and capturing this harbour marker. A long exposure shot that has its reality adjusted a little by the flashing light on the marker.
This well know location looks amazing at hightide, the addition of the bird was just amazing.
Such a grey day, provide the calm and haze I so desired for this capture from Teignmouth in Devon.

Wonderful pre dawn light again at use here, the start of the day was just shining under the clouds and added this lovely colour palette.
A lone boat on a Devon reservoir proved to be a pleasing subject in the thick fog.
You might see a bit of a theme in my minimalist shots, and yes that is things that are in the sea. I will catch them isolated if i can, but on this occasion the distant coastline in the background complimented the image as a whole.
I loved these channel markers at Porlock Weir, they made a great minimalist subject.
My take on astropotograhy is to make sure I have a strong and well exposed foreground to match the majestic night sky.
If there are any aspiring astrophotographers looking at this, then this image is a perfect example of what you can do even in the summer and not so dark nights. The conditions of course made this a special image for me, and one of my personal faves. Stonehenge looking amazing.
The North Devon coast has some interesting sights that’s for sure, so here I have used one of them in this created image.
The wonderful milky way arches over the abandoned WW2 control tower.
The night sky is just so large…. Here you have a small coastguard station being dwarfed by what is beyond.
Here I take you to an image that took some planning, and of course some luck. I knew I wanted the walkway to align with the Milky Way, but I also needed the moon to have set, the skies to be clear, and to be able to get here when that happened. Fortunately I was.
The wonderful Day Marker near Dartmouth makes for a great photo subject in most conditions, but for me it really stood out under the night sky.
I love nothing more than being out alone in the dark… It’s when I do my best work some might say!
Ok so the red light coming from the side of Portland Bill lighthouse is not a las(z)er beam, bt it is a cool dynamic in this scene.

Beer in Dorset has some great opportunities for images, and it did not let me down on this occasion.
This location in Cornwall is great to capture, especially on a clear night.
When the conditions are right, the detail you can get is amazing.
The Devon coast is wonderfully dark, this rock pool made for an amazing composition.
The Devon coast is a great place to capture the stars, as should be obvious now in my images, the majority of the time the foreground is more important to me than the night sky. Here the boat was just perfect for that.
Iceland is somewhat of a photographers mecca, it has so many wonderful locations, all of which look amazing. Oh and of course the chance to capture the Aurora Borealis. I took a road Trip in November 2021, and these images are the results of that. You will find a mixture of both travel and pure landscape photography here.

There is more beauty to be found in this than meets the eye. Finding a subject in a busy forest scene, or letting the weather isolate your subject is the perfect way to capture the wonderful woodlands and tress on this planet.
I love the conditions that Autumn can bring to the Southwest of the UK, misty mornings being one of my favourite. The leaves here are almost about to turn to those glorious autumnal colours.
Sometimes an image is made not just be the location, but by the conditions. The Troll’s told me I could not reveal if I found any.
The wonderfully evocative ancient woodlands of Dartmoor National Park can be just amazing in the right conditions.

Woodland often looks best in foggy conditions, and here when out hunting in thick clouds and rain I captured this image. I was really putting my cameras weather sealing through its paces, but I hope you agree, it was worth it.

A wonderful winters day on Dartmoor
I have a particular style of editing that I am developing that involves taking a black and white image and also a coloured image of the same frame, and combining them both. This allows me to produce wonderful punchy and detailed images, with muted tones.
Perfect conditions were had this morning at Clevedon Pier.
Fernworthy Reservoir on a misty winters morning, looking to my eye splendid. I was not only attracted to the overall scene, but also to the tree tops and the contrast against what seems to be a blank background. It was very foggy though, so I have no Idea what was beyond?
The wonderful Boscombe Pier. I used an extended shutter speed here to remove the many people that were on the pier.
Paignton Pier is a relatively local location, and one that I have photographed on lots of occasions.
A wonderful lighthouse located on Anglesea, it is a very photogenic location.
This pier at Teignmouth has seen far better days, and this is its appeal for me.
The coastline of Devon has some wonderful rocks to capture.
My seascapes are often captured on the wonderful West-country coastline, and of course much further afield too.
I am always drawn to capturing the flow of the waves, it helps me tell the story.

The coast can be just as beautiful when its stormy, I love the raw power on display here.
I have been to this location on a few occasions, and normally only had one type of weather… Wild! However on this day, it was warm and hazy, very odd for February. Still, I do love the calmness of this scene.
You will often find the best coastal conditions after a good storm front. Here it was nice and moody, but still with some interesting light.
An approaching storm at Budleigh Salterton framed this award wining image of the boat Daisy.
Piers do make for lovely images, this shot at dawn is definitely one of my favourites from this location.

Torridon in Scotland is such an amazing place, an area I am in love with.
Shot on a 70-200mm lens whilst looking across from Dinorwic, the hills below Snowdon looked amazing. The light was great and picked out the path, and the clouds added the right atmosphere.
